Season 2022/23

Tim has an exciting season ahead that sees him appearing in major operas, concerts and recitals as well as the release of 2 solo albums and a complete opera recording.

He returns to the opera stage with Corselli’s Achille in Sciro at the Teatro Real in Madrid in Mariame Clement’s production, conducted by Ivor Bolton. This production had reached its final rehearsal in March 2020 when the pandemic intervened. Tim is delighted to return to Madrid to give this production its long overdue debut.

Later in the season he returns to Glyndebourne Festival Opera to reprise his acclaimed Oberon in Sir Peter Hall’s classic production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream conducted by Dalia Stasevska. Tim was last seen in this iconic production during its most recent run in 2016.

On the recital stage, Tim returns to the Wigmore Hall for a programme of solo cantatas (broadcast live on BBC Radio 3), the Salle Gaveau for Vivaldi opera arias, a programme of English song in Luxembourg and further performances of his Purcell disc Songs & Dances.

In the concert hall he will collaborate with Akademie fur Alte Musik, Arcangelo, Le Concert de la Loge, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, International Bachakademie Stuttgart, Les Musiciens de Saint Julien, RIAS Kammerchor, and Les Violons du Roy across Europe and North America.

This season also sees the release of some long awaited solo albums. Sacroprofano is a disc that juxtaposes the sacred and secular works of Antonio Vivaldi. Vivid performances from regular collaborators Arcangelo and Jonathan Cohen blur the boundaries between these genres, bringing the divine to tales of love and earthly passion to music written for the church. Sacroprofano will be released on the Alpha Classics label in January 2023.

Beauteous Softness brings together Purcell and his contemporaries - John Blow, Pelham Humfrey, and William Webb. Following their lockdown collaboration on Purcell songs, Tim reunites with La Nuova Musica and David Bates. This is a quiet album, full of beauty and subtlety, in which intimacy and immediacy of expression come to the fore. Beauteous Softness will be released on the Pentatone label in February 2023.

Following staged performances of the opera in 2021, Tim returned to the studio to record the title role in Handel’s Amadigi. Alongside conductor Christian Curnyn and his Early Opera Company, Tim sings the hero’s 10 arias and duets including the celebrated Sento la gioia. Amadigi will be released on the Chandos label in September 2022.

During the season Tim will also make new recordings of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Handel’s Theodora.
